HISTORY

The Timbermen, Inc. was founded in 1972 in Thomson, Georgia by Jim Hicks, Sr. as a timber procurement company for area sawmills and paper mills.  In 1978, the company entered the wood products manufacturing industry when it purchased a pallet and crate plant from Leonard Lokey in an old cotton warehouse on Railroad Street in Thomson.  Soon thereafter, the company began construction of its hardwood sawmill in nearby Warrenton, sawing its first board there in 1979.  In 1984 the company purchased land and property from ITT Rayonier in Camak, Georgia at the site of ITT's old sawmill facility.  The company moved its headquarters and pallet manufacturing operation to this location where it remains to this day.  From our humble beginnings producing hand nailed pallets and crates for local customers, our pallet plant is now well known throughout the southeast as one of the best and largest pallet producers in the region.

The night of January 4, 2010 is one that we will never forget.  A fire broke out in the planer mill at Camak and quickly grew to catastrophic proportions.  As scores of firefighters from Warren and surrounding counties converged on Camak, the flame completely destroyed the planer mill and three tandem nailing machines.  Within three months, a new building was erected and the nailing machines replaced.

In response to the loss of the Camak Planer Mill, the company purchased another mill in Johnston, South Carolina.  The Johnston Mill is a modern, high production facility featuring a 600 HP biomass fired boiler, two 75 MBF dry kilns, a high speed planer mill and moulder mill.  The mill produces in excess of 40 MMBF annually of high quality SYP boards, flooring, and pattern stock.

Our moulder mill is operated by our most experienced & skilled personnel.  Our moulder operator has 30+ years experience, our profile and pattern maker has 40+ years.
